What is Pilates?
Pilates is a system of exercises performed on specialised equipment designed to gain total control of your body. Through repetition of the exercises you progressively acquire the strength, coordination and rhythm needed for everyday life. The original method of learning Pilates is one where each client focuses on their individualised set of exercises. This style of learning, much like learning a martial art fosters independence and autonomy in your moving practice while developing the body uniformly, correcting postures, restoring physical vitality, invigorating the mind, and elevating the spirit.
What can I expect from starting Pilates?
Gain total-body strength, increase flexibility, and expand your mind-body connection, all in the one session. Buillding your body as a whole in this way allows healing, restoration and rehabilitation of injuries as old mechanics are replaced with better movement strategies.
Inadvertently you become more efficient in all your other daily activities and sports because of the transferability this method has on your body and life.
You won’t acquire repetitive strains or overuse injuries as the design of the format balances the workload across your entire body every session.
You also won’t feel you need to stretch after Pilates as your muscles are being lengthened in every exercise. Don’t let this fool you though, Pilates is not an easy stretch! You will be working your muscles often in opposition to other body segments which requires more concentration and effort than lifting weights however you walk out stronger, more upright, stretched, lengthened and full of zest ready to bounce into your day.
